Among the traditions that Arezzo has been able to keep through the centuries, a particular appeal is represented by the “Giostra del Saracino”, a Medioeval joust that takes place every last Sunday of August and the first Sunday of September in Piazza Grande, the main square of the town. And in this wonderful spot in 1874 Ludovichi family established the Antica Osteria Agania, that today represents the ideal place for those who want to eat in a genuine way, as the best tradition requires. From generation to generation this trattoria has been offering the best of the Tuscan cooking, seasoned with the owners’ hospitality and likeableness. These are the basic elements in Antonio’s present running, elements inherited from his parents and his grandparents. Such a mentality Antonio has handed down to his first-born child, Lapo. And today Lapo is the heir of that cookery art tradition that the Lodovichis’ has been handed down for our palates’ delight. At the Antica Osteria Agania you will discover again those old scents and flavours, that go so well with the artistic beauties sorrounding it. The typical cooking of the Antica Osteria l’Agania proposes some gastronomical receipts that belong to the cookery tradition peculiar of Arezzo and of Tuscany as well. Some of the dishes we offer are almost a real rarity today so that it’s almost impossible to find them in our restaurants. It’s enough to mention the “grifi” or the “scamarita”, two excellent classical examples, born thanks to the rural people ability to use every edible animal part, and thanks to their inventiveness and their practising economy. Some other cooking jewels you can find in our menu are: our homemade pasta, really stretched by hand, our ribollita, our spelt soup, our panzanella, our aretina tripe, our fegatelli (pieces of pig’s liver), our porchetta roast rabbit, our sambudellini, and so on. We have an aim, a mission to let the others know, appreciate and hand down the simple and genuine flavours peculiar to our cooking that has its roots in a very old past and that doesn’t deserve to go lost.
